TWILLS (tweets about pills)

By Sally Pryor

Exhibited at On Medication Townsville 2013

Twills is a dynamically generated artwork; mostly text-based.

It explores the roles of pills in contemporary life and the complex relationships with peoples' hope, fears and desires

The video above is one performance of Twills

Soundtrack is a sample of musician Bill McDonald's soundscape, which played in the On Medication exhibition

The soundscape explores his experience of being hospitalised

People are remarkably candid on twitter and their tweets are thought-provoking in themselves

When they are combined in unexpected ways, new stories are continually generated

Twills by Sally Pryor

To make this work I harvested twitter for several months in 2013, looking for interesting tweets containing the words pills or medication.

I built a database of over 500 tweets.

Then I wrote a program to assemble random collections of tweets into structured collages:

of hopes, fears, problems, solutions and experiences of medication
